Sikkim: Nine months after 14-year old boy goes missing, police recover skeletal remains

He was just 14-years old. Diwas Gurung a student of Lingding School, Gangtok went missing on July 17, 2022. Nine months later, on April 25, all that the police found was his skeletal remains – skull and few bones.
Diwas’s trouser was found hanging from a tree and his other belongings like shoes and spectacles were found along with the skeletal remains in a jungle near Enchay School, police said.
Son of Dilip Gurung and Sushila Gurung, Diwas used to stay in the school hostel with his own brother.
Sharing information about her son, Sushila Gurung said that she noticed behavioural changes in Diwas like anger issues. He became reclusive. She noticed these changes in him about a month and a half prior to his disappearance.
Later the 14 year old was taken for a health check up on 22 April 2022 where he underwent eye check up, CT scan and MRI. The reports were normal.
On 17 July, Diwas Gurung left the hostel at around 11:30am saying he has a toothache and is going out to buy medicines. He was last seen near the Chandmari petrol pump.
Now a DNA test will be done to ascertain if the skeletal remains is that of Diwas.
