Tripura’s first Padma awardee, Ex-IAS Officer Himangshu Mohon Choudhury passes away at 82

He was suffering from old age ailments
Himangshu Mohon Choudhury, the first Padma Shri award recipient from Tripura and a former IAS officer passed away today. He was 82.
Choudhury died in a private hospital in Agartala where he was admitted on Monday evening, April 24 after his health condition deteriorated. He was suffering from old age ailments.
Himangshu Mohon Choudhury is survived by two daughters, their families and a brother.
Last week Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha visited Chowdhury at his home at Bordowali to enquire about his health.
Choudhury, who was the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) during the 1971 Bangladesh war was widely recognised for his commendable job in helping the army, ‘Mukti Jodha’ and at the same time in managing the refugee crisis.
In recognition to that he was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri award in in 1972, the fourth-highest Indian civilian award.
The Bangladesh government also honoured him with the Outstanding Friend of Bangladesh honour in 2013.
