Earlier, on March 31, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had informed that the government would soon launch door-to-door survey to flush out illegal immigrants from the state. The Chief Minister had said this amid the demand for NRC implementation in the state as well as constitution of a State Population Commission.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had then also informed that the state government has already constituted a Manipur state population commission and has appointed the members.
And as far as NRC is concerned, the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 5, 2022 had adopted resolution to establish a state population commission and also to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Worth mentioning, Manipur has witnessed a series of protests by different pressure groups seeking implementation of NRC for safeguarding the indigenous, where students bodies had also tried to storm into the Chief Minister’s bungalow on March 13, this year.
