Angkita, daughter of former senior Assam Congress minister late Anjan Dutta, has been expelled from the Congress for six years for “anti-party activities”

Congress today expelled Assam Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta from the primary membership of the party for six years for “anti-party activities”.

The decision to expel Angkita, daughter of former senior Assam Congress minister late Anjan Dutta was taken few days after Angkita had accused Indian Youth Congress (IYC)’s national president Srinivas B V of gender-based harassment. She had also alleged that he had touched her inappropriately in a Raipur hotel.

Prior to this on Thursday, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) had issued a show cause notice to Angkita Dutta after she levelled allegations against Srinivas BV in social media.

The show-cause notice within hours of Angkita Dutta filing an FIR against Srinivas BV at Dispur police station in Guwahati. Angkita was given two days to reply to the show cause notice.

Worth mentioning Angkita Dutta in a series of tweets, had accused Srinivas of “continually” harassing her and discriminating against her on the basis of gender for six months. She had also accused Rahul Gandhi of not initiating action despite being apprised of the matter several months ago.

Meanwhile, reacting to the development, APCC president Bhupen Bora said,”This is the decision of the AICC and I have nothing much to say on it. I tried a lot and had told her that I will support her, but she did not feel the need for support, and took the help of law. She is now not a member of the party and the law will decide what needs to be done. This is now no more an issue. The legal battle will be between the two individuals.”

Sharing his conversation with Angkita, the APCC president said, “Since you (Angkita) are feeling insulted, I have taken up this matter with great responsibility as the APCC president and after talking to AICC, will fix a meeting with you (Angkita) and the AICC. I am on your side. We will ensure proper justice for you. This is what I said (to Angkita). But Angkita Dutta did not listen to me. She accepted whatever the CM said. When the CM said that the police will take the case if any complaint is filed, she immediately filed a case. Now it is being probed by the CID.”
