Morning Namaz, wearing new clothes, greeting each other and feasting marks Eid celebrations in Northeast

Along with the world, the northeastern states of India too celebrated Eid with religious fervour and zeal.

The morning began with special Eid namaz (prayers) being offered in mosques and Eidgahs across the state. Young and old, men of all age group attended the prayers, greeted each other by doing the customary Eid hug wishing each other good health, happiness, peace and prosperity.

At home, a lavish spread including Eid specialities like seviyan, phirni, mithi pulao (Zarda pulao), a variety of non-veg dishes including kebabs, Haleem and nihari were prepared as this Eid marks the end of the month long fasting and is all about wearing new clothes, feasting and celebrating with family and friends.

Eid-ul-Fitre is the day when every Muslim across the globe indulges in food and celebration after spending a month fasting and giving.

In Guwahati, a large number of Muslims gathered at the Machkhowa Eidgah, one of the largest Eidgahs in the city, to offer the special Eid prayers.

Thousands of Muslims from all across Tripura gathered at the Gedu Mia Masjid on Saturday in capital Agartala to offer morning prayers on Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Eid prayers was conducted by Imam of the mosque Maulana Abdul Rehaman who said, “This is a very important occasion after 30 days of fasting the Eid-Ul-Fitr is celebrated which sends the message of peace, brotherhood, humanity and love.”

Sending a message of brotherhood across people of all religions and languages, he said that Eid-Ul-Fitr should spread the message of peace and harmony to maintain unity in diversity in the nation.

Eid prayers were also offered in Shillong. Hundreds attended the prayers held at the Madina Masjid located in Laban area of Shillong.
