Manipur: Centre yet to respond to ST reservation issue in RIMS recruitment
First Published: 19th April, 2023 18:15 IST
RIMS had sought the Union Health Ministry’s approval and response after it had agreed to cancel the LDC results and declare fresh results with 34 percent reservation for ST candidates
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is still waiting for a response from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding the decision of RIMS to cancel the results of LDCs (Lower Division Clerks) and declare fresh results within one week with a 34 per cent reservation for ST candidates based on the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) held already.
It may be mentioned here that, on April 3, RIMS signed a memorandum of agreement (MoU) with the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) wherein RIMS agreed to cancel the results of LDCs (Lower Division Clerks) recruitment and announce fresh results within one week with a reservation of 34 percent for ST candidates based on the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) conducted already.
Besides, RIMS had also agreed to follow the reservation norms which provide 34 percent reservation for ST in the recruitment of Group C and D posts.
Subsequently, it sought approval and a directive from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding the matter since the recruitment results were already declared.
Sources said that after it signed the memorandum of agreement with ATSUM, on April 4 RIMS wrote to the Ministry seeking its intervention in the issue, however, there has reportedly been no response from the Ministry so far.
In the meantime, ATSUM on Tuesday called a 12-hour bandh across the hill districts of Manipur from 6 am of April 24 in protest over the alleged non-compliance of reservation for STs in recruitment in RIMS.
Meanwhile, sources informed that previous meetings of the executive council of RIMS has not yet approved the 34 percent reservation for ST candidates in the recruitment of Group C and D posts though the matter was proposed for discussion.
