Assam set for another record: 50,000 educated unemployed youths to receive appointment letters on May 11

In yet another big step towards resolving the issue of unemployment in the state, the Assam government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be providing employment to another 50,000 educated unemployed youths of the state and help them realise their dreams.
The appointment letters will be handed over to the youths by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a mega event in Guwahati on May 11.
It may be mentioned, that in the run-up to the 2021 Assembly elections, the BJP had promised to give one lakh government jobs within one year of the formation of the government.
On May 14, 2022 as a part of the mission to provide employment to 1 lakh youths, the government had handed over appointment letters to 23,000 youths in 11 departments. The youths were recruited into various departments including-the home department, health department, education department, social welfare, water resource department, Environment and Forest department.
As per the announcement made by the Assam CM, the recruitment of 23 thousand youths in various government departments was the Stage 1 of the pre-poll promise made to the people.
Subsequent to this, on September 23, 2022 the government had handed out appointment letters for 11,236 youth across 24 departments of the state.
Worth mentioning, in a bid to boost employment opportunities and support the economy, the Prime Minister initiated the third phase of the Rozgar Mela on April 13, 2023. As a part of this initiative, over 71,000 appointment letters were distributed for posts in 38 departments across the country.
In the last session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had informed the House that currently, the state has around 12 lakh unemployed youths.
The Assam Chief Minister had said that the number of unemployed youths stood at 12,36,299 as per records available with the government from different sources.
