Intense heatwave in Tripura: Schools to be shut from April 18-23

The IMD said that maximum temperatures were above normal by 3-5°C in many parts of east and northeast India

Amid the intense heat wave across Tripura, the state government has announced the closure of schools from April 18 to April 23.

All schools, both government and private, up to Class 12 shall remain closed from April 18 to April 23.
The mercury in Tripura’s capital city Agartala has gone up to 39 degrees Celsius. In the wake of the sudden rise in temperature, Agartala, wore a deserted look.

The Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave warning throughout the state.

Stressing on the health impact on students due to the heat wave, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said, “The heat wave across the state may have a bad impact on the health of the students. In this view, the state government has decided to keep all the government-run and grant-in-aid schools closed with effect from April 18, 2023, to April 23, 2023.”


“Besides, the privately run schools have been requested to keep their institutions closed during that period.” CM Saha added.

In a press release, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that maximum temperatures were above normal by 3-5°C in many parts of east and northeast India.

Heat wave conditions are very likely in Sikkim during the next 2 days, the IMD statement added.

The IMD’s daily weather report also stated that dry weather prevailed across the northeastern states during the last 24 hours.

While, light rain is likely to occur at many isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya on Monday. However, weather is likely to remain dry over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the day.
