PM Modi spent the entire day, the first day of Rongali Bihu, Assam’s biggest and most loved of the three Bihus, in Guwahati dedicating projects to the people of Assam, inaugurating and laying foundation stones of development projects worth over Rs 14,000 crores.
In what can be termed as a Rongali Bihu gift for Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a slew of mega development projects as well as laid base for several others.
It was a historic moment for Assam as well as the Northeast, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi today dedicated the AIIMS in Guwahati for the service of the nation. The AIIMS Guwahati, which is the first in Northeast, is equipped with modern state of the art healthcare infrastructure, has been built at a cost of Rs 1123 crore.
The super-speciality hospital will provide healthcare not only to people in Assam but also to other Northeast states. Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also virtually inaugurated three medical colleges at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation of the Rs 546 crore Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (AAHII), a joint initiative of the state government and IIT Guwahati.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also launched the distribution of 1.1 crore Ayushman cards to beneficiaries who will be able to avail cashless healthcare medical treatment benefits up to Rs five lakh with these cards.
PM Modi said, “Today, the Northeast has got its first AIIMS, and Assam has got three new medical colleges. In the last nine years, we have worked on infrastructure projects, which is why everyone here talks about connectivity-related infrastructure projects.”
Targetting the Opposition, PM Modi said, “Instead of catering to a particular vote bank, we are focused on reducing the difficulties of the people of the country. We want to ensure that our sisters do not have to travel far for treatment. We are woking to ensure that no poor person has to postpone his treatment for want of money.”
“Due to the policies of previous governments, we had less number of doctors and medical professionals. It was a huge roadblock to accessing quality healthcare services in the country,” PM Modi added.
Not only this, PM Modi also highlighted about the steps taken by his government across the nation to bolster the healthcare system. In this context, the Prime Minister said,”In the 10 years before 2014, only about 150 medical colleges were built in the country. However, in the last 9 years, about 300 new medical colleges have been built by our government. MBBS seats in the country have also doubled to more than one lakh in the last nine years.”
PM Modi also launched a scathing attack at the Congress, saying, “Whenever I talk about the development of the Northeast over the last nine years, some people get disturbed because they can’t claim credit for the growth in the state.”
“They complain that they, too, ruled the country for decades. Power and credit-hungry leaders, whose only ambition is to lord over the country, have done much damage to our people,” the Prime Minister further said.
The Prime Minister also witnessed a mega Bihu dance performance by over 11,304 Bihu artistes which has already made it to the Guinness Book of World Records. The certificate for this was handed over to Prime Minister Modi by authorities of the Guiness Book of World Records at the Sarusajai stadium.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took part in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court held at the Sankardev Kalakshetra.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Modi maintained that his government has done away with many archaic laws. He said, “You all are aware that we have many colonial-era laws, that have become redundant, we are repealing and have repealed over 2,000 of those. Over 40,000 outdated compliances have been ended, and several provisions decriminalised that have helped reduce cases.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted that the Gauhati High Court has completed 75 years at the time when the nation will also complete 75 years of Independence. “This is a unique High Court, it has most jurisdiction. This High Court controls other states apart from Assam,” PM Modi said.
At the same event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also launched the launched the Assam Cop app which will facilitate accused and vehicle search from the database of Crime and Criminal Network Tracking System (CCTNS) and the VAHAN national register.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took part in a colourful Bihu programme at the Sarusajai Sport Complex in Guwahati which featured performances by more than 11000 Bihu artistes who had created Guinness Record for the largest Bihu dance performance in a single venue yesterday.
