Tapi Mra, the first mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh to conquer Mt Everest, had gone missing with his assistant Niku Dao, during an official expedition to Mt Kyarisatam in Arunachal

It is going to be almost a year that Tapi Mra and his assistant Niku Dao had gone missing while they were on an official to explore Mount Kyarisatam in East Kameng district in August 2022. But Mra’s family has not given up hope. Even after eight months of Tapi and his assistant’s disappearance, his family is continuing the search.
Beating all odds, overcoming many challenges as the terrain is extremely tough, the family of Tapi Mra, the first mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh to conquer Mount Everest, has constructed a temporary route with the help of the local community to reach the point where Tapi Mra had gone missing. Forty-five percent of the route is already ready. Tapi’s sister, Yatok Mra Nilo, told Northeast Live that the family and the local community have been working tirelessly to locate their missing loved ones by any means necessary.
In November 2022, the Arunachal government had agreed to fulfill all the demands placed by Tapi Mra’s family and assured them of completing the procedure for the search operation within March 2023. Now Tapi Mra’s family has requested a review meeting with the government on April 7 to discuss the search operation for the missing mountaineer.
After a month of Tapi and his assistant going missing, on September 23, 2022, Tapi Mra’s family met Chief Minister Pema Khandu and sought his help for a search operation.
After the search operation resumed on October 17, 2022, the team led by Tagit Sorang made progress. They recovered equipment such as GPS, mobile phones, tents, boots, and personal belongings of Tapi Mra and Niku Dao. These were found at a location some distance away from Camp 2. Additionally, the team spotted footsteps belonging to the two missing mountaineers at the same location.
Tapi Mra’s family has alleged that if mountaineer Tagit Sorang had been included in the search operations from the start, Tapi Mra may have even been rescued alive.
