The BJP is steadfast on it’s stand against corruption, be it in any part of the nation. And, the party’s stand is no different when it comes to Meghalaya. Barely a month, after reinforcing ties with Conrad Sangma led NPP to form the MDA 2.0, the BJP today said that it’s stand on the corruption issues in the state remains same.
BJP national general secretary Rituraj Sinha, who was is Shillong today said,”BJP believes that corruption is a disease in democracy. It is the greatest hindrance to the development of a state and welfare of the people. BJP is anti-corruption, it is anti-dynasties, and it is anti-anybody who is anti-India. BJP has a stand on corruption and that remains unchanged.”
The BJP leader said this when his response was sought regarding Home Minister Amit Shah terming Meghalaya as one of the most corrupt state, during his campaign trail prior to the assembly election this year.
Rituraj Sinha meanwhile said that it is time for both the Centre and the Meghalaya government to work together in greater co-ordination since the state has lot of challenges as far as development is concerned.
He said,”I think elections are over. I think it is time for us to ensure the best possible stable government for the state of Meghalaya. Meghalaya has a lot of developmental challenges, the state finance is in challenge. It is for the central government and the state government to come together to find solutions for the people of Meghalaya, to work for the benefit and development of Meghalaya, and that is our current priority and that should be the priority of all constructive parties in Meghalaya politics.”
Worth mentioning, Home Minister Amit Shah while addressing an election rally in Tura in February had said,“Meghalaya is one of the most corrupt states in the country. Make BJP strong here and we will finish corruption. Centre sent schemes for Meghalaya however those disappeared.”
Responding to a query as to why the BJP was restricted to only 2 seats in the assembly election despite the high-profile campaign, Sinha said,”In every election our job is to put our best foot forward, present an alternative to the people of the state and in a healthy democracy after the campaign ends and the election results are out, you accept the mandate of the people. And BJP has exactly done that thing.”
The BJP leader who was actively involved in the BJP affairs for elections in Meghalaya, stratightaway denied, when he was asked if the people of the state are not accepting his party. He said,”No, aboslutely I dont believe so. I think the support that we have got in the state of Meghalaya has only grown from 2018. We have seen a large number of people join our party. We could fit candidates in all the 60 assembly segments. The kind of crowd that has turned up for BJP events are recorded on camera, so obviously our support has grown.”
However, the BJP national general secretary maintained, “Why and what more can be done to further strengthen the party is a matter of introspection. And that goes on always.”
