Chief Minister Singh, in a strong message, said that anyone behind the brutal killing of the 17-year old teenager will not be spared
Amid the protests demanding justice for Seigunlal Misao, the 17 year old Manipur teen who was shot dead on March 25 by unidentified assailants near his home in Kangpokpi, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that police have “narrowed down” on the culprits and an arrest would be made soon.
In an exclusive interview with Northeast Live, the Manipur Chief Minister said, “The police is continuously investigating about the killers, the motive. I can say that police has narrowed down to book the culprits at the earliest.”
Expressing grief over the death of a young boy, the CM said, “Really, it was a very unfortunate incident. We have lost a young boy. A special team (police) has been formed to book the culprits, who have already been zeroed in.”
Chief Minister Singh, in a strong message, said that anyone behind the brutal killing of the 17-year old teenager will not be spared.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh decried such acts of violence.
Reacting to the “drugs seller” allegation levelled by rebel group NRFM on deceased Seigunlal Misao, the Chief Minister said,”That boy might be anything, but how they can say after killing a person that he is doing this or doing that. It cannot be accepted at any cost. And whoever might be, but we will definitely book the culprits.”
When asked if his government has zero tolerance against people who take law into their hands, N Biren Singh said,”Exactly. Manipur is a multi-ethnic society and law enforcing agency has to be completely activated. Otherwise, if some community does something to any other community, it always seems to be like a communal tension. But the govt stand is very clear that we will not tolerate such things. No one is allowed to take law into their hands and this very particular case (Misao’s killing) I am really very shocked and I also condemn it and convey my deepest condolences to the family. In the meantime we have formed one special team to book the culprits at the earliest.”
It was only yesterday, that the Joint Action Committee formed to ensure justice for the murdered teenager, had warned that the agitation will intensify further since the government’s assurance to nab the offenders within 2-3 days from the date of the incident has already passed by. In fact the JAC along with students as well as other organizations staged demonstrations in various parts of the Kanpokpi district today in support of their demand for justice to Seigunlal Misao.
Prior to this, things had become more complicated after the family members denied to claim Seigunlal’s body on March 28, opposing the accusations levelled by the NRFM and had sought for clarity of the same.
