Marijuana worth over Rs 6 Cr seized from Guwahati bound oil tanker in Tripura, 2 arrested

Tripura police on Thursday seized over 3000 kg of ganja (marijuana) that was hid inside the tanker which was moving from Khowai in Tripura to Guwahati
In one of the biggest narcotics seizure in Tripura in recent times, the Tripura police on Thursday seized more than 3000 kg of ganja (marijuana), the market value of which is estimated at about Rs 6 crore and arrested two people in this connection, a senior police official said.
Kanta Jahangir, SP Unakoti said, “Based on secret information, Kumarghat sub-divisional police officer Kamal Devabarma and Pecharthal Police and TSR forces jointly conducted naka check on the Assam Agartala National Highway No. 08 and in front of the Pecharthal police station searched an oil tanker and recovered more than 3000 kg of dry ganja from the 10-wheel oil tanker.”
The tanker was coming from Khowai district of Tripura. Police has registered a case and is investigating the matter to bust the entire gang involved with the drug trafficking.
It may be mentioned that only two days ago the Border Security Force (BSF) troopers seized 1,385 kg of marijuana worth Rs 2.8 crore in West Tripura district and arrested three drug peddlers in connection in the border village at Sidhai.
