In two separate crackdowns on Thursday in Manipur and Tripura, police arrested two women along with their accomplices for selling drugs
Now women seem to be taking the lead in selling drugs in the northeast. In two separate crackdowns against drugs conducted in Manipur and Tripura on Thursday, two women peddlers have been arrested alongwith their male accomplices.
In Manipur, acting on a tip off, the Churachandpur police raided a house of a woman named Lallemzou Manlun in New Lamka. The police had information that this lady was selling drugs from her residence. During the search operation, 23 soap cases of brown sugar weighing about 329 grams were recovered.
During interrogation, Lallemzou Manlun divulged some information based on which her neighbour Chinlamneng Manlun’s house was also raided. The police recovered 5 soap cases and one polythene packet containing suspected brown sugar weighing about 72 grams from Manlun’s house.
The seized brown sugar was wrapped in a white cloth, packed, and sealed by using a facsimile in the presence of SDM/Tuibuong and witnesses.
Both the accused have been arrested by the police and case registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
In Tripura too, a woman was arrested for selling drugs.
During a joint anti-drug operation launched by the East and West Agartala police on Thursday, four drug dealers including the woman were arrested after the team recovered brown sugar weighing around 400 gms and Yaba tablets from them.
Speaking to Northeast Live, SDPO Sadar subdivision, Ajay Kumar Das, stated that the police are interrogating the accused to uncover more details about their operations. The SDPO also said the accused will be produced before the court today.
