Meghalaya gets additional Rs 300 cr from Centre for development work

The recently sworn in MDA government of Meghalaya got a shot in the arm as the Centre allocated an additional RS 300 crore for developmental work.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the additional funds has been allocated to the state by the Government of India from the Capital Investment Fund (CIF).

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said,”we are one of the few states that has finished it (Capital Investment Fund (CIF) for 2022-2023 and another Rs 300 crore has been santioned to us. So that means we have received the bonus part.”

Chief Minister Sangma informed that the state had received around Rs 600 crore in the beginning from the CIF, which has been utilized fully.

When asked about his recent meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and if there is something to be worried about the finances of the state, Conrad Sangma said,”No, In fact Meghalaya has utilized the funds in a very efficient manner in different projects and different schemes.”

Conrad Sangma further said that he had urged the Government of India for additional funds and bonus for utilizing and completing all the Capital Investment funds.

As the Budget Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly began from today, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also spoke on a host of other key issues including Mukroh.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister reiterated,”We have been very clear from Day 1 that Mukroh is not a disputed area at all. Mukroh is very much within the jurisdiction of Meghalaya. And this is a stand in which we have been very clear from Day 1.”

Whena asked about the steps taken to relocate the residents of the Harijan Colony, Chief Minister Sangma said the government will take a decision only after the High Level Committee, constituted to look into the matter, makes the final call.

The Chief Minister said,”The Committee (HLC) will take a call than we will decide. They (HLC) will come to the government. So let the committee do it’s work.”
