The petition, signed by ZPM’s general secretary, vigilance S.L. Ngursailova Sailo alleged that tourism minister Robert Romawia Royte abused his power to get profits through the consultant firm he owned
The opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) petitioned Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati to take action to disqulify minister of state for Tourism Robert Romawia Royte from his post on the issue of office of profit. Several ZPM leaders met with Kambhampati and gave him the petition asking for Royte, also known as “Triple R,” to be disqualified from serving as a legislator under section 9(A) of the Representation of the People Act of 1951.
The petition, signed by ZPM’s general secretary, vigilance S.L. Ngursailova Sailo alleged that the minister abused his power to get profits through the consultant firm he owned – North East Consultancy Services (NECS).
Sailo said that they appealed to the state governor to disqualify Royte as the power vested in the governor under article 192 (1) of the Indian Constitution.
The allegation was that the Tourism Minister continued to file GST for NECS till date and bagged lucrative government contracts under the department of district council and minority affairs through the Deed of Agreement reached under the single source selection.
“Though he claimed in the state assembly that the firm is now owned by his son, the affidavit filed by the minister in the assembly elections declared that his son is a dependent of his,” the petition said.
It is also clear that in the latest electoral roll published in January, he and his son are living in one house and under one roof and that his son is not an independent person as far as the Mizo Customary Law is concerned.
The de facto owner of the NECS is the Minister and received undue benefits from the state government through his consultancy firm, which is in violation of the oath of office he took when he was being sworn-in as a minister of state, the petition alleged.
