Nagaland Assembly election concludes peacefully, poll percentage at 75.49%

Few incidents of skirmishes reported from Mokokchung, Wokha, Mon, Zunheboto, and Tseminyu

Nagaland has successfully and peacefully concluded its polling across 2315 polling stations today. The state recorded an overall 75.49% voter turnout.

Though there were no major violence reported from anywhere in the state. Just a few cases of minor skirmishes and heated exchanges between the supporters of the rival political parties were reported from Mokokchung, Wokha, Mon, Zunheboto, and Tseminyu.

However, no major issues could develop due to timely intervention and the presence of NP and CAPF.
A few major incidents that have been reported today are:

1) In Wokha under 40 AC Bhandari in Akuk Village, in the vicinity of polling stations no. 1 and 4 located at GHS Akuk Village at around 6:00 a.m., stone-pelting between supporters of two political parties was reported. Gun shots were also fired; however, it could not be ascertained which side fired the shots, which also injured three people. Madhya Pradesh SAP stationed in the polling station fired eight rounds into the air, and eventually the situation was brought under control. The injured civilians have been evacuated to the hospital and are reported to be safe.

2) In Monyakshu, under 55 A/C, there was a report of a stone-pelting incident by unknown persons against the security personnel on striking reserve duty. In this incident, an ITBP jawan and a Nagaland Police personnel sustained minor injuries.

3) A firing incident was reported at Awotsakili Village at a distance of around 200 meters from Polling Station 2 under 32 A/C Atoizu. Three incidents occurred at 1030 hrs, 1130 hrs, and 1300 hrs.Reinforcement of one section of 35 UP PAC, one section of E9 IRB, and a special team of DEF Zunheboto 4 personnel were sent to the spot. There was no report of casualties or destruction of property. UG elements are suspected to be involved.

4) In an unfortunate incident in Wokha, a vehicle carrying Madhya Pradesh Police was involved in an accident near N. Longchum. One Madhya Pradesh police officer died on the spot and three others sustained injuries. The injured are being evacuated for medical treatment. The mortal remains of the deceased are being brought back to Wokha for further formalities.

5) Today a seizure of Rs. 1,99,350 (Rupees one lakh, ninety-nine thousand, three hundred fifty) was made by police all over the state, bringing the total seizure made by police during the MCC period to Rs. 35,79,49,059 (Rupees thirty-five crores, seventy-nine lakhs, forty thousand fifty-nine).

6) In the last 24 hours, 40 people were bound down, bringing the total to 2,900 troublemakers bound down by police during the 2023 general elections to the State legislative Assembly.
