Timothy Shira, a senior leader of the ruling National People’s Party and the Deputy Speaker of Meghalaya, has been a member of the party for a very long time. He is a well-known personality in the state and is slated to contest as an NPP candidate from the Resubelpara constituency in the upcoming 2023 Assembly elections. Shira is the incumbent MLA from the Resubelpara constituency and had won the 2018 Assembly election by a margin of 1,763 votes, securing a total of 6,720 votes. In the upcoming elections, he will face competition from Tweel K Marak of the Congress, Sukharam K Sangma of the BJP, Taposh D Marak of the UDP, and Rinaldo K Sangma of the Trinamool Congress.
