28 Myanmar refugees shifted to Imphal central jail

The Manipur police on Friday shifted all the remaining 28 Myanmar refugees to central jail in Imphal. All the refugees were kept in a detention center called Sadbhavna Mandap Khominthang in New Lamka, Manipur.

As per sources, these Myanmarese nationals have crossed the Indo-Myanmar border, unable to bear the brunt of atrocities committed against them by the military Junta in Myanmar.

At the center, the refugees were allowed to carry on with activities in accordance with their skills like handloom and other types of weaving to support their lives and their children’s education, however, the police hunted them down and put them in a detention center.

Initially, there were 55 people, including 17 minors, at the Sadbhavna Mandap detention center.

However, in a sudden turn of events on December 22, 2022, three people fled the detention center. Thereafter, they have been put under strict vigil and supervision, with none allowed to even venture out of the campus.

On January 24, 24 Burmese refugees kept at the Sadbhavna Mandap Khominthang, detention centre were shifted to the Imphal Central Jail.

Meanwhile, 28 people, including six minors, were taken to the Imphal Central Jail on Friday.
