Sikkim’s longest and highest Bhaleydhunga ropeway to be operational soon

Bhaleydhunga ropeway, Sikkim’s longest and the highest ropeway, will be operational soon. The ropeway would be ready in the next 10 days and is expected to be inaugurated soon. At 3.5-kilometre-long and 1800 meter above sea level which goes up to 3,500 meter above sea level in Bhaleydhunga, the ropeway is said to Sikkim’s longest and the highest ropeway.

Sugato Majumder, project manager and consultant for the project, told Northeast Live that the ropeway has an automatic system, and the doors are automatic. The ropeway has a detachable mono cabin system.

The maximum speed of the ropeway is 6 m per sec, and it will take about take minutes to reach the Bhaleydhunga top station. The ropeway has 18 cabins and an 8-seat capacity.

The construction work on field started in 2016 including the survey work.

“After all the civil work the ropeway has been commissioned now, and all the role testing has been done. Before handover little amount of work is left. After 10 days the ropeway will be ready.” Sugato Majumder informed.

The ropeway would connect Dhapper to Bhaleydhunga Hill, Yangang, Namchi and South Sikkim. This ropeway falls under the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary. It was constructed by a France-based company called Poma.
