In a stinging attack on the NPP, BJP candidate from North Shillong, M Kharkhrang has accused the ruling NPP of corruption in the name of Covid and sought an investigation

In a stinging attack on the NPP, BJP candidate from North Shillong, M Kharkhrang has accused the ruling NPP of corruption in the name of Covid and sought an investigation into the Rs 800 crore expenditure made by the Conrad Sangma-led government to manage Covid.

Comparing the expenditure figures, Kharkrang said the neighbouring state of Assam that has a much larger population as compared to Meghalaya, had spent just about Rs 200-250 crore against Meghalaya’s whopping Rs 800 crore.

Kharkrang added,”This should not be a mere agenda and there should be an investigation as how come a state like Meghalaya with small population incurred a huge expenditure of more than 800 crores whereas states like Assam and Manipur which had more cases than Meghalaya incurred a total expenditure of mere 200-250 crores for tackling COVID.”

Meanwhile, North Shillong BJP candidate M Kharkrang has intensified the campaign to woo the last voter. The former Meghalaya police official who was seen engaged in a hectic door to door campaign came out all guns blazing against the Congress.

Kharkrang strongly responded, while replying to a query on the basis of Congress allegations that the cultural, religious and linguistic identity of Meghalaya is under threat from BJP.

He said,”Congress or any other party I dont think that they have anything else to say against the BJP.”
M Kharkrang is up against TMC’s Elgiva Gwyneth Rynjah.
