Assam: Man jumps into Brahmaputra from the Kaliabhomora bridge

A man jumped off from the Kaliabhomora bridge in Assam’s Tezpur on Saturday evening.
As per sources, the youth has been identified as 26-year-old Nihal Kakati, a resident of Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district.
The incident took place at around 5 pm, while he along with his friend was heading towards Tezpur from Narayanpur. As he was crossing the Kaliabhomora bridge, he suddenly stopped the car to offer prayers to the mighty Brahmaputra river and then jumped into the Brahmaputra river from the bridge, said sources.
Nihal’s friend immediately rushed to the nearby police station to inform them about the incident.
On receiving information about the incident, the police reached the spot and informed State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to launch a search and rescue operation.
However, the reason behind Nihal’s action is not known yet.
