Manipur to host first tri-nation international friendly football tournament from March 20 to 28. India to play against Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan
The football powerhouse state of Manipur will host its first official international matches from March 20 to 28 in a tri-nation international friendly football tournament between India, Myanmar, and Kyrgyzstan.
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh announced that the state capital will host the international tournament at a press conference here in the presence of All India Football Federation President Kalyan Chaubey and Secretary General Shaji Prabhakaran.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh extended special thanks to AIFF for understanding the passion of the game in Manipur and choosing the state for the tri-nation tournament.
He said that it will be a recognition of the potential, talent, and contribution of Manipuris in Indian football as well as at the International level.
The AIFF President said that dozens of football players have played for India, but this time, the Indian national team is coming to Manipur.
The state government and AIFF also discussed setting up a football academy in Manipur to nurture the young talents in the state.
Speaking in this regard, the AIFF president said that the AIFF will submit a technical plan for the football academy project to the government and also frame a timeline.
He said that there are two aspects; one is technical, and the other is financial and infrastructural. With the state government providing the latter, he assured that AIFF is ever ready to provide the technical support needed to groom budding football talents in Manipur.
In this regard, an MoU between the Manipur government and AIFF will be signed in the near future, the officials confirmed.
Presently, India is ranked 106, while Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar are ranked 94 and 159, in the international football rankings.
