Boost for BJP in Tripura; TMC’s Subal Bhowmick, CPI-M’s Moboshar Ali join party ahead of Assembly Polls

Reports suggest that Congress leader Billal Mia too expected to jump ship and join either BJP or TIPRA Motha soon
In a major jolt to CPI-M and TMC in Tripura, CPI-M leader of Tripura – MLA Moboshar Ali and TMC leader Subal Bhowmick joined BJP in the party headquarters in New Delhi today.
Ali and Bhowmick joined the saffron party in the presence of Tripura CM Manik Saha, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra and other senior party leaders.
Moboshar Ali, who was elected to the Tripura Assembly from Kailasahar constituency in northern Tripura in 2018, was upset over the party’s decision to offer the Kailasehar constituency to the Congress under the seat sharing arrangement with the Left party’s new ally Congress for the upcoming polls. Congress state president Birajit Sinha is likely to contest from the Kailasahar constituency.
It was sort of home-coming for Subal Bhowmcik who joined BJP today after party hopping since 2019. Bhowmick was with the BJP till 2019 after which he joined the Congress, then the TMC before joining BJP again today. In 2022, Bhowmick was suddenly removed as the President of Tripura TMC.
Reports suggest that Congress leader Billal Mia who won from Baxanagar in western Tripura twice in 1988 and 1998 is likely to join BJP or TIPRA Motha as his constituency has been reserved for CPI-M.
Trouble for CPI-M and Congress started after the two allies announced their first candidates list on Wednesday, January 25.
