Candidates have written to Chairman, SPSC regarding the widespread cheating and violation of exam rules. Political parties too have taken up the matter and demanded re-examination

Candidates who appeared for the Sikkim Services (Combined Recruitment) Prelim Exams 2022 held on January 16 have alleged rampant cheating and extensive violation of examination rules at several centres across the state where the exams were held.

Aggrieved candidates who wrote to the Chairman, Sikkim Public Service Commission (SPSC) about the wrong doings during the prelims said that there was no proper checking or frisking of candidates as they entered the examination centres. Citing the example of Room 49-50 in Tadong Senior Secondary School, the candidate alleged that the aspirants received booklets with broken seals and invigilators left the exam halls unattended which resulted in widespread cheating.

Mentioning about the situation in Room 6B, PNGSSS, Gangtok, the candidates said that several aspirants were seen freely using mobile phones.
Candidates at Government Law College, Burtuk checked answers online for Paper I. Candidates were allowed to enter the exam hall after over 30 minutes of the commencement of exams. Moreover, the official answer key released by SPSC on January 17, 2023 had multiple errors. Examinees are now being asked to pay the fee for challenging questions which were incorrect.

Raising the issue of alleged corruption, sheer negligence and violation of exam rules, SDF spokespersons, Rinzing Norbu Bhutia and Bandana Sharma alleged that rules and regulations were violated and demanded that re-examination be conducted. They held SPSC and the Sikkim Government responsible for such misconduct and malpractice. The SDF spokesperson held a press conference today on the issue.

President of Reform Call, Ganesh Rai also accused SPSC of not conducting exams according to the rules and regulations.

There were about 8,000 aspirants who sat for the exam. The exams were held to fill 18 Under Secretary positions, 14 positions of DSP, and 30 positions of Accounts Officer.
