Meanwhile, a video taken inside the aircraft is also doing rounds on social media. The video shows a passenger sharing his experience on Facebook Live just before the plane crashed. Cries of distraught passengers can be heard in the video.
The Yeti Airlines ATR72 carrying 72 passengers from Kathmandu to Pokhara crashed into a river gorge while landing at the newly-opened airport in the resort city of Pokhara, Nepal, officials said.
This is the Himalayan nation’s deadliest aviation accident in more than 30 years.
The black boxes of the Yeti Airlines aircraft have been recovered from the accident site, as per PTI.
Initial reports stated that the crash was caused by a technical issue. Officials from the airport administration informed Nepal Prime Minister Prachanda that the crash was caused by a technical issue not because of bad weather as was reported earlier.
The Nepal government has ordered a special commission to investigate the causes of the crash. A report is expected in 45 days.
