A herd of elephants had crossed over to Bangladesh but on its return to India, one elephant collapsed in a mustard field. He was later rescued by BSF personnel posted

At a time when man-elephant conflict has reached an alarming level, the act of rescuing an ailing jumbo by the Border Security Force (BSF) bravehearts have set an example of humanity at its best.

A herd of wild jumbos had crossed over to Bangladesh on Friday night and had reportedly returned the same night. However, 1 among them collapsed in a mustard field in the No Man’s Zone.

But, thanks to the close vigil of the troopers of 28 Battalion of BSF posted along the India-Bangladesh border, they noticed the jumbo, and soon swung into action. With the help of the Meghalaya Forest department and wildlife officials in Tura, they rescued the elephant.

Necessary medical attention was given to the jumbo and it was indeed an emotional moment for everyone at the site, when the jumbo was back on its feet.

What is more endearing being the fact that the elephant herd had gone back to the No Man’s Zone looking for its mate only to find that it was rescued by the troops.

The incident took place close to the Kalai Char in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills.
