Manipur celebrates Poumai Thounii festival

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated the Poumai Thounii festival in Phaibung Khullen village on Thursday.
Expressing happiness for being able to be part of the Poumai Thounii celebrations the CM said, “I shall cherish this beautiful moment in my memories. On this auspicious occasion, let everlasting peace, prosperity and progress prevail in the state. May this festival preserve and rejuvenate the culture and traditions of the Poumai Community.”
Thounii is being celebrated by the Poumai community to mark the beginning of their New Year. Celebrating the festive spirit, Chief Minister N Biren Singh donned a traditional attire of the Poumai community.
During his address, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh also highlighted his government’s relentless push to win the War against Drugs and also corruption.
The Manipur Chief Minister also said, “With the introduction of “Go to Hills and Go to Village initiative, different facilities have been extended to the people and the government is ensuring that these facilities reach every person’s doorstep.” He also mentioned that this is an initiative to bridge the gap between the hills and the valley.
