NE CMs mourn Heeraba, PM Modi’s mother’s demise

Chief Ministers of the northeastern states – Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, Tripura CM Manik Saha, Manipur CM N Biren Singh, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, Sikkim CM PS Tamang conveyed their condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and prayed for the eternal peace of his mother Heeraba, who passed away early Friday morning.
Condoling the death of Heeraba, Assam CM Sarma wrote,“For 100 glorious years, Heeraben Maa blessed us all with her affection. She was a symbol of simplicity, humility and conviction. As she leaves for heavenly abode, with teary eyes, I join millions in prayers. May her blessings always be with us.”
In his heartfelt condolence message, Meghalaya CM Sangma said “losing a mother is the most painful”. His tweet read, “I extend my deepest condolences to Hon’ble PM Sh.@Narendra Modiji on the passing of his dear mother, Smt. Heeraben Modi. Losing a parent is an unthinkable loss and losing a mother is the most painful. May God grant him and his family comfort during this difficult time.
Arunachal CM Khandu said PM Modi’s mother was “an icon of simplicity…As she leaves for her heavenly abode, I pray to Lord Buddha for peace to her soul…”
In a series of tweets, Tripura CM Saha prayed for the eternal peace of Heeraba and peace and strength for the family to bear the loss.
Manipur CM N Biren Singh said, “nothing can fill the void of losing a mother. In this difficult time, I join the Nation in extending my heartfelt condolences to PM Modi Ji & his family”.
Sikkim CM Tamang led the state in condoling Heeraba’s death. “On behalf of Sikkim, State Government and my personal behalf, I offer my deepest condolences to the Hon’ble PM & his entire family, friends and pray for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace. Om Shanti!”
Heeraba died at the age of 100. She was admitted at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre on a super-specialty hospital in Ahmedabad on Wednesday due to some health issues. She was supposed to return home after her health condition had stabilized and had started taking oral diet. But she passed away at 3.30 AM this morning. PM Modi had spent over an hour with his mother in the hospital on Wednesday.
Heeraba lived in Raysan village near Gandhinagar city with PM Modi’s younger brother Pankaj Modi. PM Modi had last met Heeraba at her residence on December 4 when he was in Gujarat for the state assembly election campaign. Heeraba was last seen in public on December 5 when she cast her vote in the second phase of Assembly polls.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too had tweeted PM Modi and conveyed his best wishes and prayers for Heeraba’s speedy recovery.
