The Joint Parliamentary Committee on the second day of hearing on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Shillong, met government representatives and police officials among others to take their views on the proposed bill.

At a time when there is a demand from the various groups in the region that the JPC should reach out to more people to take their views.

Member of the JPC and Rajya Sabha Bhuwaneswar Kalita said the issue will be taken up for discussion. Kalita also admitted that there is little time before the JPC as the recommendation has to be submitted before the monsoon session of the parliament.

He, however, added that if there are more representations and recommendations the same will be taken up and discussed. Meanwhile, chairman of JPC, Ramesh Agarwal said the JPC has met almost all stakeholders in Meghalaya and if need be the panel will visit the state again.
