Manipur Govt doctors to go on Mass Casual Leave from Dec 17

Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, health minister says demands of the striking doctors will be placed before the cabinet

In a major decision that might affect patients and the healthcare facilities of Manipur, striking doctors under the banner of All Manipur Health Services Doctors Association (AMHSDA) have decided to go on Mass Casual Leave from December 17.

AMHSDA general secretary Dr Lolee P Mao stated that the Association has been compelled to take the decision of going on mass casual leave due to the failure of the state government to respond to its demands.

The Association has been demanding —

  1. Time Bound Promotion
  2. Enhancement of Superannuation Age to 65 years
  3. Creation of Director General post for health sectors
  4. NPA Fixation w.e.f. 01/01/2016 as per 7th central pay commission

State Health Department have already been agreed that out of 8 demands being made by All Manipur Health Services Doctors Association, 4 demands are quite legitimate and verbal assurances has been given during few rounds of talk between the striking doctors and Principal Secretary of the Health Department. But the doctors are not satisfied with the given verbal assurance, Mao said.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Dr Mao said, “Government is buying time and will fully neglecting the doctor’s demands. Government in the earlier talks have already given verbal assurance to fulfill at least 4 demands out of 8. We have given enough time to materialise the given verbal assurance but nothing has concretised, so we have decided to go on Mass Casual Leave.

Meanwhile, Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, state health minister, speaking to Northeast Live, said that the demands of the striking doctors will be placed before the Cabinet and requested the doctors to call off the Mass Casual Leave.

The minister said that the government is considering the matter seriously and indicated that an amicable is likely within this month.
