Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President K. Meghachandra today remarked that it was unfortunate that the RD&PR minister and its officials had declined their proposal for a joint spot verification of the works executed under PMGSY from Galkapkot to Gamhui under Thanlon block in Churachandpur district.
Earlier, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has invited the Minister concerned and Chief Secretary for a joint inspection of various projects in hill districts.
Notably, the Manipur Congress president had alleged that the said work programme has not been implemented properly despite total funds of Rs 8.29 crore having been released to the contractor.
Referring to media reports from a few days ago, M. Dama, stated that work has been resumed and is targeted to be completed by January next year, the MPCC president said that such a statement is a mockery to the people since a work completion certificate has already been given in 2020.
He questioned the logic behind the recent resumption of a work completion certificate for which a certificate was given in 2020 and said that this points to the fact that the work has not been executed properly and misappropriation of funds cannot be ruled out.
He maintained that the daylight robbery of public money by contractors in collusion with officials of the RD&PR department and politicians is very clear.
He further urged the government to take the necessary actions against the erring individuals involved in the alleged embezzlement of funds.
“Now is the right time to act on the government’s commitment and make the anti-corruption cell active,” he added.
Meghachandra went on to say that what the party alleged about misappropriation of funds to the tune of 1,700 crore rupees under PMGSY became more clear when the party conducted spot verifications.
He pointed out that similar irregularities in work execution have been found in Noney district’s Noney to Nungnang 17.5 km long road stretch, and none of the three packages concerning the said road stretch have been properly executed.
Saying that the Congress party will not remain a silent spectator when public money is being looted, he mounted pressure on the government to take the necessary actions against all those involved in the alleged fund embezzlement.
