Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has criticised the NPP-led MDA for not keeping its promise that inner line permit (ILP) will be implemented in the state. Mukul said on Friday that the NPP-led MDA government has betrayed the people and played with their sentiments as far as the demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) is concerned.
The AITC leader pointed out that the overall demand for ILP became louder in Meghalaya and other Northeast States triggered by the Centre’s intent to bulldoze a law Citizen Amendment Act (CAA) passed by Parliament which would have ramification in the demography of the Northeast region.
Mukul Sangma also said that the NPP which had committed to the people of the state, failed the people by supporting the CAB now CAA. Sangma also said even the lone MP from Meghalaya supported the proposed enactment of the law and voted in favour of the bill. Conrad Sangma termed it as a collective decision taken by the MDA against the collective rejection by the people of the Northeast.
