Tripura gets its first Film and Television Institute

Set up with expert inputs and on the lines of SRFTI, Kolkata, an annual budget of Rs 5.76 cr has been sanctioned
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha inaugurated state’s first Film and Television Institute (TFTI) at Nazrul Kalasethra on Monday
Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma, ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, renowned film star of Bangladesh Ferdous Ahmed and Himansu Sekhar Khatua, noted filmmaker and Director of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata were present at the inauguration.
Speaking at the inaugural programme CM Saha said that the centre shall not only open a new avenue for the talents of the state but also open new employment opportunities for the youths besides spreading the rich culture of the state to the global audience through the silver screen.
Addressing the gathering the Bangladesh actor said that in the coming days the Institute can also be opened for the Bangladeshi students and films made from this centre shall further strengthen the ties between India and Bangladesh.
Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma said that film is among the most powerful medium today and that center in coming days shall surely produce renowned film makers and actors by polishing the local talents.
The Institute has been set up with expertise from SRFTI, Kolkata. The courses have been designed on the lines of the SRFTI, Kolkata. The Institute shall be funded by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of government of Tripura and an annual budget of Rs 5.76 crores has already been sanctioned by the state government.
In the first batch 47 students have enrolled and the session is likely to start with short term courses from December 1.
The Institute shall initially run four certificate courses like – Film Appreciation, Screen Acting, Production for Cinema and Television beside Anchoring and News Reading informed ICA Minister Chowdhury.
Later other courses including diploma, degree, honours courses shall start and for five years specialisation courses the centre shall send its students to SRFTI, Kolkata.
