Two Paramilitary Jawans from Manipur on Poll Duty in Gujarat Shot Dead

According to the police report, the two men killed were jawans Thoiba Singh and Jitendra Singh

Two jawans of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were shot dead and two others were injured in a clash between personnel in Porbandar district of Gujarat where they were deployed for election duty ahead of next month’s assembly polls.

The two men killed were jawans Thoiba Singh and Jitendra Singh, and the accused was constable S Inauchashingh.

They were part of an India Reserve Battalion (IRB) from Manipur and stationed in Gujarat as part of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

The incident took place at a cyclone relief facility which was being used by the CAPF jawans.

The soldiers were not on duty when they got into a fight in the evening that turned violent and resulted in rounds being fired from an AK-47 rifle.

The two injured jawans Constables Chorajit and Rohikana were rushed to the Probandar general hospital and later shifted to a hospital in Jamnagar.

Investigation is on to ascertain what led to the clash.

Legislative Assembly election is scheduled to be held in Gujarat from 1 to 5 December 2022 in two phases, to elect 182 members of 15th Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

The results will be declared on 8 December 2022.
