The 224th Maha Raas festival began yesterday in Tripura. Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha attended the event as the chief guest.

Speaking to North East Live CM Saha said that he is very delighted to attend the event as it is for the first time he is attending the grand celebration as the Chief Minister of the State.

Meanwhile, thousands of devotees in Tripura celebrated “Maha Raas,” a festival commemorating Lord Krishna’s love life. Every year on the full moon day of “Kartik Purnima” in the Hindu month of “Kartik,” the festival commemorates Lord Krishna’s love for Radha. Girls dressed in traditional attire danced around Lord Krishna’s idols and acted as ‘gopies,’ singing devotional songs at the local temple all night.

Even participant from Manipur, Langlen Thoibi Ningthouja attended & performed at the event. Speaking to North East live Ningthouja said that she is nervous performing at the event since she is the only participant from Manipur who is performing at the Maha Raas.

Notably, the Maha Raas festival began in Tripura 223 years ago when a Maharani of the Manikya dynasty from Manipur brought the Radha-Krishna idol from there and established a Radhamadhav temple.
