Shillong Protests: Govt talks to pressure groups

Government is committed to ensure that peace prevails in the entire state, said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that the government is holding talks with different organisations who have upped their ante in protest against alleged delay in fulfilling their demands.
Speaking exclusively to our Chief of Bureau Arindam Das, the Meghalaya chief minister said that his government is committed to ensure that peace prevails in the entire state. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that not only his government, but previous governments too had faced similar situation.
However, the Meghalaya Chief Minister maintained that ongoing deliberations will yield results and hopes to move forward thereby finding a solution to all the issues.

It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya government had imposed Section 144 in Shillong following the violence during the FKJGP rally on October 28. The FKJGP had taken out a rally to press for their demand of resolving the unemployment issue.
Contrary to this, totally opposite scenes were witnessed after members of 4 pressure groups led by Save Hynniewtrep Mission took to the streets in Shillong on November 1.
The HYC, HANM, EJNC, JSM and Corp. Alert members demanded that the government fulfil their charter of demands including implementation of ILP, inclusion of Khasi language in the 8th Schedule besides others.
