Meghalaya: Rising Sun Water Fest begins at Umiam lake

The much-anticipated Rising Sun Water Fest 2022 begins at Umiam Lake. It will be inaugurated during a gala opening ceremony to be held today. The maiden event is being conducted at the Umiam Lake in Shillong under the aegis of Headquarters Eastern Command, which has its aquatic node at the lake.

The first edition of the event will witness more than 150 participants from 22 clubs in rowing and sailing sports from all across the country. The Chief Minister of Meghalaya will be the chief guest.

Inaugurated the Rising Sun Water Fest 2022 as part of @kheloindia organised by @adgpi & the Govt. of Meghalaya at Umiam Sports Complex. The opening ceremony would be bejewelled by stellar performances from the Isha Som Band, local garo dancers, and regimental brass bands of the Indian Army.

The Indian Navy’s operational demonstration and display of the prowess of the Special Parachute Regiment Forces, with vital support from the Indian Air Force, will also be a major attraction for the audience.


Notably, the regatta is aimed at creating a lasting impact and spreading awareness about sailing and rowing.

Further, it will encourage youth to participate in such water sports events, thereby creating an opportunity for the North East to become a centre of excellence in water sports events.
