Manipur lifting liquor ban row: Cong slams state govt

The row over lifting of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 has escalated to a new high. Cong finally hits out at state govt.

The Manipur Congress has finally broken it’s silence on N. Biren Singh’s government to partially lift liquor ban in the state.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president and senior spokesperson Hareshwar Goshwami alleged that the decision to partially lift liquor prohibition is only to save the BJP government from total bankruptcy. The Congress leader further alleged that the decision was taken in interest of the rich.

In a scathing attack, the Manipur Congress vice-president also asked the state government not to jeopardize the lives of common people . He further urged the government to revoke it’s stand and instead implement the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991 with honesty and sincerity.

Besides, the Manipur Congress has also welcomed the decision of Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) besides other women groups for their stand against the government’s decision to partially lift the liquor ban.

On October 14,Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had backed his government’s decision to parrtially lift the liquor ban in the state. Chief Minister N. Biren after attending an event in Churachandpur said that the government has taken the decision for the welfare of the people.

It needs to be mentioned that the CM N Biren Singh government is facing the heat from different quarters of the society for deciding to lift the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991.
