Will ILP be implemented in Sikkim? The demand for bringing the Himalayan state under the ambit of the ILP has gained momentum with the Opposition Hamro Sikkim Party leaving no stone unturned to put pressure on the government. The HSP led by Bhaichung Bhutia organized a Jan Sansad or People’s Parliament to deliberate on the issue. The Jan Sansad adopted the following resolutions: (1) The Inner-Line Permit must be implemented in Sikkim without any delay. (2) The Government of Sikkim pass a Resolution to Implement the ILP in Sikkim and send it to the central government for further action. (3) The central government should implement the ILP in Sikkim at the earliest. Meanwhile, among those present included BJP state President D B Chauhan, Biraj Adhikari, Spokesperson, HSP, Bhutia Lepcha Apex Committee leader Tseten Tashi Bhutia, Sikkim Republican Party President K B Rai besides others.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Bhutia said that the issue of implementing ILP in Sikkim is concerned with the security of the state as well as the entire nation. Besides, Bhutia highlighting the significance of ILP said it will help in preserving the identity and culture of the state.
The footballer turned politician also requested the Centre and the state government to adopt necessary resolutions and implement ILP in the state. Bhutia is apprehensive of the fact that absence of ILP in the state will help anti-nationalists to operated from the state which he considers to be a sensitive zone.
The Hamro Sikkim Party president attributed this to the growing rate of crimes and drugs menace in the state. According to Bhaichung Bhutia, outsiders are involved in 70-80% of these kind of crimes. Bhutia also said that fake Aadhar, Voter’s Cards besides other documents are being created by such unscrupulous elements.
Bhaichung feels that if the ILP is not implemented than the indigenous will be under serious threat even though they benefits under Article 371 (F).
The HSP president also expressed his sadness over the fact that Chief Minister PS Tamang did not apprise Home Amit Minister Amit Shah about the issue during the latter’s visit to the Himalayan state recently.
