Protests erupt in different parts of Kashmir valley. Kashmir Freedom Fighters claim responsibility for attack.

Jammu and Kashmir witnessed another dastardly killing of a Kashmiri Pandit this afternoon. The incident took place in Chowdhary Gund village under Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, when the victim was on his way to an orchard.

The deceased has been identified as Puran Krishan Bhat. Soon after being shot by the militants, Bhat was rushed to a hospital, but later succumbed to injuries.

Bhat, a Kashmiri Hindu, did not leave the Valley even when militancy peaked in the 1990s. Meanwhile, Kashmir Pandits in Jammu took to the streets condemning the killing and sought justice for the victim.

Hundreds of protestors also blocked Jammu-Akhnoor road to protest the latest targeted killing of their community member by terrorists in the valley.

As per ANI inputs, DIG Sujit Kumar said the initial investigation has revealed that one militant fired upon Bhat. “A Kashmiri Pandit Puran Ji has been murdered. We are working on the case. Kashmir Freedom Fighters has claimed the responsibility for it. We won’t say anything for sure about it, yet. A guard was present here. We are ascertaining the reason, he had gone out on his scooter and had returned on it. He was not alone, they were two people. If the incident occurred in presence of the guard who was deployed here, action will cover not only him but all concerned officers in the area.”
