Manipur CM Biren inaugurates Chivu Chandrakirti Memorial Park in Churachandpur

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Friday inaugurated the Chivu Maharaj Chandrakirti Memorial Park at Tonjang village in Churachandpur district. He also laid the foundation stone of the Manipur Southern Cultural Centre.

Notably, the Chivu Maharaj Chandrakirti Memorial Park has been created to commemorate the victory of Manipuri King Chandrakriti Singh over 112 Lushai chiefs during the Lushai Expedition of 1871–72. Concurrently, the Manipur CM also inaugurated the “Manipur Southern Cultural Centre’, which incorporates a museum, conference hall, cottages, and an amphitheatre, among others.

This cultural centre will provide a platform to showcase the unique history and culture of the people residing in the region.

While speaking at the event, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the people of Singngat area for their painstaking efforts to preserve the forest and desist from the illegal practises of poppy cultivation.

The CM also praised 13 villages for their exceptional care and concern for the preservation of forests and greeneries, as well as their refusal to cultivate poppy, and announced a Rs 1 lakh payment. These awards were given to five village chiefs, and the remaining eight villagers will be given in due course.

CM Biren Singh also expressed his admiration of the natural beauty of this particular area and the rest of the district of Churachandpur. He also revealed his ambitious plans to transform it into one of the major tourist attraction centers. 

The event was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Iningthou Leishemba Sanajaoba, Minister Letpao Haokip and several other MLAs.
