Arunachal: TRIHMS doctors bat for APST rights

20% quota for non-APSTs is totally anti-Arunachalee, anti-APST and anti-tribal in nature. So the CM Khandu must scrap it, demands JDAAP.
The Junior Doctors Association of Arunachal Pradesh has moved Chief Minister Pema Khandu demanding cancellation of Non-APST, NRI and Faculty quota for MBBS seats under the ambit of state quota in Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences or TRIHMS.
The agitating junior doctors in a statement said that there is an unwanted and unwarranted reservation for non-APST candidates which goes against the prescribed format of the All India Quota.
The JDAAP alleged that out of the 85% state quota, there is 20% quota for non-APSTs in TRIHMS, which according to the doctors is a direct encroachment on indigenous APST rights.
The JDAAP is demanding that the entire 85% quota must be reserved for local APST students only. Therefore, the clamour has grown louder for scrapping of the 20% quota for non APSTs which is now prevalent under the 85% State Quota.
The JDAAP considers that reserving 20% quota for non-APSTs is totally anti-Arunachalee, anti-APST and anti-tribal in nature. It may be mentioned that TRIHMS is the only medical college in the frontier state.
According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India’s directives and the National Medical Council guidelines, the MBBS seat distribution in any medical college is 15% All India Quota through All India UG NEET and 85% state quota. Likewise, following the guidelines, the seat distribution as notified in TRIHMS is 7 seats under AIQ and 43 seats under the State Quota.
