Tripura village transformed into solar hamlet

First Published: 12th October, 2022 18:09 IST

It is worth mentioning that the village had very little access to electricity earlier owing to its location and vegetation.

The Off-grid Solar System working independently is found as a viable solution for increasing energy access in rural and remote areas in Tripura where the conventional grid is yet to reach or the reliability of the grid supply is not up to the desired level.

Under the concept, the bio-village Kharansingh Kami Para, Chaimuroua of Tripura has been totally transformed into a solar hamlet.

It is worth mentioning that the village had very little access to electricity earlier owing to its location and vegetation.

The Tripura Renewal Energy Development Agency, a subsidiary of the Department of Power of the government of Tripura came up with the idea and as a pilot project has totally transformed the electricity supply system into solar power right from home supply to street lighting and even irrigation or for the supply of clean drinking water.

TREDA has installed two Solar Photovoltaic Power Plants or community-owned micro-grids to provide steady electricity to 60 families.

Meanwhile, solar energy has been beneficial for the people of the region as renewable energy is used right from home lighting to using electrical appliances like TV, mobile recharging, internet, etc.

Apart from that, the solar light is proving beneficial for providing energy for the installation of solar street lighting as well for business activities in the area.

Speaking on the development Joint Director of TREDA, Debabrata Sukla Das said that the grid lines are either not available or not reliable in remote areas but electricity is a necessity for all and so the only option is renewable energy mainly solar.

TREDA is implementing various renewable energy projects right from solar to bioenergy in the villages where electricity is not available easily
