Manipur: Journalists threatened by militants

Media houses have gone to a ceasework strike after receiving threatens from different militant groups. Media services suspended.
A big story from Manipur…Journalists in the state are on cease work strike and have even decided to halt publications and broadcasting of till Wednesday. But what has forced the journos to resort to such a drastic step?
Continuous threats by various insurgent groups to journos have led to this big development. Decrying such threats, a joint emergency general body meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) and Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union (MHJU) was held in Imphal. It was in this meeting, the decision to cease work was taken.
The meeting also decided to hold a sit-in against the threats and intimidations on Wednesday at Keishampat and later convene a meeting with CSOs and women groups for their intervention into the matter.
The media fraternity in Manipur had suspended its service since Monday evening.
