Veteran politician Mulayam Singh Yadav no more

Mulayam Singh Yadav was shifted to the ICU at Medanta hospital in New Delhi last Sunday after his health deteriorated.

An astute politician and founder of the Samajwadi Party, Mulayam Singh Yadav breathed his last this morning.

The three-time former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh was 82 and was about to turn 83 six weeks later.

Mulayam Singh had been critical for days and had been on life-saving drugs at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. Yadav was shifted to the ICU at Medanta hospital in New Delhi last Sunday after his health deteriorated.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath besides other leaders cutting across party lines have condoled the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

“I had many interactions with Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji when we served as Chief Ministers of our respective states. The close association continued and I always looked forward to hearing his views. His demise pains me. Condolences to his family and lakhs of supporters. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.

One of Uttar Pradesh’s top politicians, Mulayam Singh was also Union Defence Minister in 1996-98. Mulayam Singh was elected 10 times as an MLA and 7-times as Lok Sabha MP.

Mulayam Singh Yadav founded the Samajwadi Party on 4 October 1992. Yadav had affiliations to political parties before he founded the SP which includes Lokdal, Janata Party(Secular), Janata Party, Bhartiya Lok Dal,Bhartiya Kranti Dal and Socialist Party.
During the 16th Lok Sabha session Mulayam Singh Yadav’s comments on Narendra Modi had shocked the entire opposition when he wished Prime Minister Narendra Modi to become the Prime Minister again.
