A’chal: Pick-up driver accused of raping 38-year-old arrested

Police in Arunachal’s Balemu on Friday arrested a pick-up driver for allegedly raping a 38-year woman at Sikari Danga, in Arunachal’s West Kameng District.

The accused has been identified as 29 years old Sujit Das, who is a resident of Hatibandha village in Assam’s Nagaon district.

Reportedly, the victim was proceeding to Bhalukpong, but she did not get any vehicle for her destination since Balipara, Chariduar, and Tawang road was blocked. The accused offered a lift to the victim and proceeded through Orang, Kalaktang, Shergaon, Rupa, Tenga roads via Balemu.

On reaching Sikari Danga Arunachal-Assam border, the accused raped her and took her along with him to Sollang, in the Nagaon district.

Somehow, the victim managed to escape from the clutch of the accused and reported the incident at Balemu police station in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Consequently, the Balemu police coordinated with Nagaon police and arrested Sujit Das at Sollang in the Nagaon district and registered a case at the Balemu police station.
