Union HM Shah in Assam: Focus on Flood free Assam, combating narcotics trade

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati for a crucial 3-day tour. Shah is accompanied by BJP national president JP Nadda. Both Shah and Nadda were accorded a grand welcome by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his cabinet colleagues. Union Minister Sarbanada Sonowal also welcomed both Shah and Nadda.

Among the agendas, talks on Mission Flood Free Assam is one of the top priority. In this regard, Shah will chair a key meet on mitigating the flood problem. The meetin will be attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Water Resources minister Pijush Hazarika, state disaster management minister Jogen Mohan and top officials of the central and state water resources departments.

As per available data, around 2,43,048 houses in Assam have been completely destroyed in the state’s 30 districts. The Centre has released Rs 648.80 crore in 2022-23 as disaster assistance to Assam where 197 people have lost their lives due to floods and landslides this year.

Meanwhile, Shah will chair a crucial DGPs’ conference on narcotics control in the Northeast during his 3-day visit to Assam today.

DGP’s of all Northeast states along with Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau Satya Narayan Pradhan will attend the crucial conference being held to coordinate measures to curb the menace in the Northeast.

The meeting assumes great significance with the Centre looking to deal a decisive blow to the illegal trade in the region which is in close proximity to the golden triangle and is a source and destination point for narcotics.

Shah will also preside over the NEC governing council meeting in Guwahati on October 9th and inaugurate the SP’s conference at Dergaon in Golaghat district the same day.

And special traffic rules have been issued in Guwahati ahead of Amit Shah’s 3-day long visit to the state.

As per the new SOPs, 6-wheeler commercial goods vehicles have not been allowed to ply on NH-27 and NH-17 falling under Guwahati City from 11 am to 11 pm today.

Then on October 8, the same rules will apply on NH-27 and NH-17 for commercial goods carrying vehicles from 7 am to 11 pm.

On October 9, no commercial goods carrying vehicles will be allowed to ply on DG Road, MG Road, KLB Road, Taybulla Road, GNB Road, and B Baruah Road from 8 AM to 11 PM.
