Addressing media persons in New Delhi today, Chief Minister Sarma said the state cabinet has already held taken key decisions in this regard.

At a time when the demand for ST status for the 6 communities in Assam is growing louder, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the state government supports the implementation of ST Status for the six communities.

Addressing media persons in New Delhi today, Chief Minister Sarma said the state cabinet has already held taken key decisions in this regard.

He added that the matter was even discussed in Rajya Sabha. However, he admitted that the process will take time as the government has to consider the nitty-gritty to pave way for the final decision.

It is pertinent to mention here that the 6 communities include the tea tribes, Sooteas, Koch-Rajbongshis, Mataks, Morans, and Tai-Ahoms. These communities have been time and again demanding for implementation of ST Status, and also launched a coordinated stir over the delay.
