84 jihadi elements arrested since 2016 in Assam

This was informed in the Assembly on Monday by the government in reply to a query by the leader of the opposition Debabrata Saikia.

The Assam Police and security agencies have apprehended around 84 terror suspects having links with Jihadi outfits since 2016.

Of the 84 arrested, 35 were from JMB, 40 from Ansarullah Bangla Team, and 9 from Hijbul Mujahideen.

Moreover, of the 40 arrested by Ansarulah Bangla Team, 10 are related to Madrassas in the state. The Assam government also informed that the Centre is well aware of the developments.

Meanwhile, the Assam Government also informed that while 1561 youths joined different rebel groups since 2016, as many as 7935 returned to the mainstream in the last 6 years.

Interestingly, 203 youths joined the ULFA-Independent in 2016.
